About

We just really like the beach

And after a few years on Banderas Bay we got tired of answering the same questions by WhatsApp. So we started writing them down.

Playa Por Favor is an independent journal about Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta and the rest of Banderas Bay. No press trips, no sponsored top-tens, no stock photos of a beach in Thailand pretending to be Mexico.

What you will find here

Four sections, and we try to keep them honest:

  • Beaches — where to swim, where the current is nasty, where the sand disappears in September and which cove is worth the boat ride.
  • Eat & Drink — marisquerías, bakeries, taco carts and the odd tasting menu. We pay for our food.
  • Living Here — renting, buying, visas, humidity, power outages and the paperwork nobody warns you about.
  • Things to Do — surf, fishing, hikes and tours, including the ones we would not book again.

Who writes this

We are a small crew of residents: a couple of writers, a photographer and a web person who keeps the lights on. Between us we have spent the better part of a decade on this bay, most of it doing digital work for local businesses — restaurants, gyms, real-estate offices, tattoo studios, law firms. That is the second reason this site exists: we wanted one place to point at when someone asks what we have been building.

Full disclosure

Some of the businesses and projects we link to are ours, or belong to people we have worked with. We say so when it matters, and we never take money to call something the best. If a place is mediocre we simply do not write about it — life is short and the bay is big.

Things we are involved in

Because people ask: our day job lives at Brewed Marketing and iWeb, where we build sites and marketing for businesses around the bay. Some of the local projects we have had a hand in, and still read ourselves, are Visita Vallarta for the tourist side of town, PVR Estate for real-estate reporting, Vallarta Surf for lessons at Sayulita and Fish and Tours when we want to get on a boat.

Corrections

Prices move, restaurants close, roads wash out. If something here is out of date, tell us and we will fix it with a note at the bottom of the story. Write to the contact page or straight to hola@playaporfavor.com.
